When you would like to stay healthy, every person understands how important it is to get enough Vitamin C. Everybody is always talking about how much Vitamin C will help a person. What’s the first thing that you’re told if you get a cold? “Take a tablet of Vitamin C!” Now, though, there is a little bit of speculation about whether or not Vitamin C is actually beneficial in preventing the common cold.

You’ve heard of Echinacea by now. The thought is that, if you take an Echinacea supplement as soon as you feel a cold setting in, you can keep it from really grabbing hold of you. More and more experiments are proving, however, that Echinacea offers little more than a simple placebo effect for people who are suffering from the common cold or the flu. At most the health supplement cuts the cold’s duration by twenty hours. That’s hardly a cure.

So how do you stop the cold from setting in? Here are a number of tips to actually give you a hand.

1. Wash your hands. Wash the hands often. This is probably the ideal and most efficient way to keep the common cold at a distance. How come this really is so productive? Give it some thought. The hands make contact with cold and flu germs a lot more than every other appendage or part of the body. Did you previously look at all the material you touch each day? You increase your chances of coming down with something every time you touch anything that has already been touched by someone suffering from a cold or the flu. The more reguarily you wash the hands, the less likely it is that one of the microbes you have contact with will get the possibility to work its way into your system.

2. Get lots and lots of rest. Staying up late is often incredibly tempting, specifically when your life is tense. You would like to get far more work done. Perhaps you want to see your friends more often. Maybe there’s a television show you have been waiting around to catch. All these things reduce the amount of sleep that you are able to get. 3. Make sure you are properly hydrated. Your system requires at the very least eight eight ounce cups of water every day to be healthy. Staying properly hydrated will be how your body is able to flush the toxins out of your system. If you haven’t been effectively hydrated the germs in your system will just hang out and get tougher instead of being forced out. Do not forget: your system can last about 7 days without eating solid food. You can only go one or two without consuming drinking water. Doesn’t this make the importance of suitable hydration hit home?

Here’s the thing: there isn’t a magical solution for the flu. All you have is your own common sense and proper preventative procedures like keeping clean, resting a lot and drinking a good amount of water.
