According to Wikipedia “Curcumin is the principal curcuminoid of the popular Indian spice turmeric, which is a member of the ginger family (Zingiberaceae)”.

The curcuminoids are polyphenols and are responsible for the yellow color of turmeric which an ingredient of curries.

Turmeric is an ancient spice and a traditional remedy. Its health benefits have been described for over 5000 years and an ancient Assyrian medical book dated 600 BC, reveals that a plant with yellow leaves called Curcuma longa is an effective, all-round ‘medicinal miracle. Since 1900 BC numerous therapeutic activities have been assigned to turmeric for a wide variety of diseases and conditions, including those of the skin, pulmonary, and gastro-intestinal systems, aches, pains, wounds and disorders. Marco Polo, writing of his travels in China, described Turmeric in the 13th century.

The Curcumin anti- inflammatory properties have been found to be so effective that curcumin tumeric is now recognised in many research papers as a powerful remedy for treating medical condition such as;

  • Candida Infection
  • Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia
  • Weight Reduction
  • Arthritis, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, painful joints
    and gout

It should also be mentioned that independent research studies have found anti-cancer properties of turmeric and suggest that Curcumin has the potential for treatment of five top cancers in the U.S. — colon, breast, prostate, lung and skin.
