Teenage Smoking

Teenage Smoking is one of the most talked about social problems today. It starts off as an adventure and burns out the lives of so many youngsters. Research says that more than three quarters of adult smokers tried their first puff as teenagers.
Teenage is a phase of stress and turmoil. It is a time to explore into one’s own identity.
It has been scientifically proven that the teenage mind is different from the adult mind. The centre of emotion in the brain, the ‘limbic system’, is highly developed in adolescence, but the tool to control it is not. As a result of which teenagers are more prone to nervous breakdowns and impulsive behaviour. Teenage Smoking thus acts as an outlet to vent these emotions and depressions.
Some start off for the thrill of it, emulating their seniors at school or even their parents. The ones who smoke are mostly the ones who do not perform well at school and thus are isolated by the others. So smoking helps in pulling up their self esteem, it makes them feel more important. It sometimes becomes a style statement or even a power statement. School bullies and the ‘tough’ guys top the list of teenage smokers.
Tobacco use ranks first in the list of causes of preventable deaths. It is almost needless to mention the harmful effects of Nicotine that tobacco contains. It alters the biological system in such a way that a certain minimum level of nicotine becomes necessary to maintain an emotional and psychological balance. It is also proven beyond doubt that smokers are highly vulnerable to diseases like cancer, respiratory problems and even reproductive problems.
A little care taken at home and school can be very effective in reducing teenage smoking. Emotionally supporting them and making them feel needed is the first step. Making them understand the harmful effects of smoking on their bodies should be the next. Sometimes the very feeling of triumph they derive from going against their parent’s wishes can itself be addictive. Giving them that little attention they crave for might save them from puffing all their lives.
The governments are also working towards solving this issue that is of great social concern. Owing to this, cigarettes have become more expensive. This has also reduced the number of young puffers. The society has opened its eyes to this problem and many organizations have come forward to help. Many camps and talks have also been organized to make teenagers and their parents more aware of the situation.
It is however heartening to see that there are many teenagers who are participating in anti-smoking campaigns. The idea that teenage smoking is ‘cool’ has started withering away in the minds of these young ones. This is in fact a positive sign. The argument that teenage smoking is mostly induced by peer pressure is starting to become baseless. Many youngsters are taking an effort to talk to their friends and siblings to help them out of this addiction.

What is your number one excuse for not quitting?
February 22, 2012 by admin
Filed under How to stop smoking
Today I just have a simple question for you and a few suggestions from my personal experiences. I want to find out what the number one excuse is that keeps you from quitting smoking?
Ask yourself this question:
Why have I not quit smoking until now?
Im expecting an answer that goes something like this:
I have not quit smoking until now because, every time I quit, I go back home and see my spouse smoking, or at work my colleagues invite me for a smoke break even when they know I am trying to quit so I break down and can’t resist the temptation.
Or even
I still have not quit even though I know its bad, because I have never ever tried to quit.
Answers like the ones below are really not answers:
1. I am addicted or I am an addict is not an answer, all smokers are hooked on the stuff thats why they struggle to quit (duh)!!!
2. I start craving for them, trust me I craved and felt like crying at times watching the person next to me smoke and just knowing I cant smoke.
The whole purpose of this is to find the weak spot that gets you to go back, hopefully we can go from there to find something to aid you quit. I sincerely want to help you find that answer to help you quit smoking.
I intend to create an application of some sorts that can help you overcome this weakness, so I am looking for a little data to work on. Your help will be appreciated.
Advice from an ex smoker
Just a few words from an ex-smoker to end this post, I did it and so many others have, so there really is no reason why you cant.
I honestly believe hypnosis can help, clinical tests even prove this to be true see this link (Hypnosis increases your chances of quitting by 66%).
This is why I have included a quit smoking hypnosis audio program under the free quit smoking aids section. I actually used this myself and let me share with you why I know this works.
I listened to it a couple of times and then tried quitting. Every time I found myself in a situation where I was craving I would take a deep breath and exhale by blowing the steam out slowly. This is behavior I have never done before, I suspected the hypnosis may have worked and listened to it without falling asleep or relaxing as you are told.
I wanted to listen to what suggestions were being made, turns out that one of the suggestions was to take a deep breath and blow it out slowly every time you find yourself in a situation where you feel vulnerable. It didn’t take away the craving but it made it that much more bearable so I managed to stay quit long enough to have quit for good.
I was amazed it worked, of course you got to listen to it at least once a day for 30 days, especially if you are the skeptical type. I did 2 sessions daily for 2 weeks to see these results.
There really is no reason to burn your pockets on any quit smoking products to quit, a combination of hypnosis with a little will to end the habit of smoking from your side is all you really need.
Good luck and remember you only fail when you give up….don’t give up on quitting!

Electronic Cigarette

.
The electronic cigarette is a device that is inhaled to provide nicotine as a vaporized solution. It is sometimes called a personal vaporizer. This alternative to actually smoking a cigarette is a relatively new development that is gaining in popularity. The nicotine is inhaled and when you blow out, the vapor provides a flavor and sensation similar to inhaling tobacco smoke, however, no tobacco or smoke is involved in the use of an electronic cigarette.
There are different styles on the market today, but most actually look like a cigarette, with the end becoming red as if it were actually lit, giving you more of the feeling of an actual cigarette. Another common design is the “pen-style,” so named because it looks like a ballpoint pen. Whatever the style, the basic components of an electronic cigarette are the cartridge, the atomizer and the battery.
The cartridge, or mouthpiece, contains an absorbent material moistened with a flavored nicotine solution. Cartridges come in regular nicotine flavor in various degrees of strength and menthol. Some companies also have coffee flavored, chocolate, mint, orange – just about any flavor. Others try to mimic brand names, like Marlboro. Then there are companies who have solutions with little or no nicotine at all and these are the ones people are using as an aid to stop smoking. This nicotine solution is generally nicotine diluted in propylene glycol, a common food additive. Cartridges are usually purchased in a five-pack, and each cartridge is equal to approximately one to one and a half packs of cigarettes. You can also purchase small vials of the flavored liquid nicotine and refill cartridges yourself.
The atomizer, or heating element, vaporizes the liquid in the cartridge so that it can be inhaled. Some models include the atomizer in the cartridge so that you get a new atomizer each time you replace the cartridge. These are called cartomizers.
The long end of the electronic cigarette is the battery, a lithium-ion rechargeable battery. This powers the heating element. Usually one purchases a “starter kit” which includes a battery charger. There are several different battery chargers available, including wall outlet, car charger and USB charger. Most electronic cigarettes have a sensor that activates upon inhalation, but others have a manual button the user has to press while inhaling.
E-Cigarettes are the smoothest way to “stop smoking” – in fact you will continue to enjoy the pleasure of a smoke while avoiding all the negative side effect, since electronic cigarettes are:
Safer: The proponents of electronic cigarettes feel this product is very safe because this nicotine contains no harmful chemicals or carcinogens. Some of the makers of e-cigarettes have marketed their product as a way to stop smoking.Healthier: Electronic cigarettes are a healthier alternative to regular cigarette smoking. They do not contain the thousands of poisonous substances and harmful chemicals found in the tobacco of regular cigarettes. There is no harmful smoke, only a relatively odorless vapor that dissipates quickly.More Convenient: E-cigarettes can be used where regular cigarettes are prohibited because there are no dangers of secondhand smoke. There are no messy ashes or cigarette butts and no bad breath or smoke odor on your body, clothes, in your car or home.Cheaper: The cost of using electronic cigarettes is much lower than purchasing regular cigarettes, once you have a starter kit. The e-cigarette gives you all the nicotine and none of the mess.A special offer is currently available to Stop-Smoking-Tips.com visitors – a free trial for the top brand of e-cigarettes. The number of free kits is limited to hurry up to use this incredible risk free offer.

Smoke Deter Review
Smoking is one of the worst habits to start, among the most difficult habits to break, and it can also be one of the most dangerous. When you decide to quit smoking, there are many aids that are available at almost every drugstore around the world. However, many of those aids can produce harmful side effects and some could be considered just as dangerous as smoking. That is why people are now turning to Smoke Deter.
Smoke Deter is a natural formula that has been designed by experts in the field of homeopathic care to help those that would like to stop smoking. By offering a natural product, you can be rest assured you are using one of the safest aids available to stop smoking.
Besides causing damage to the blood vessels in the body, smoking causes a variety of other issues. Heart disease is one of the leading diseases associated with smoking, as well as lung cancer. According to the American Heart Association, 440,000 of the 2.4 million deaths in the U.S. each year stem from smoking. Also included in the list are hypertension (otherwise known as high blood pressure), emphysema, stomach issues, and respiratory diseases.
Smoking also causes an increase in the aging process. Smokers tend to appear older than their age since smoking causes the skin to wrinkle easy, as well as sag and appear to be dry.
Another issue that smoking causes is lack of energy. Since your body is not processing oxygen at its maximum level due to the lungs being damaged by smoking, your body slows down and can become fatigued quickly.
The benefits of quitting smoking start taking place almost immediately. What kind of benefits?
* About 20 minutes after your last cigarette, pulse rate and blood pressure begin to drop and body temperature in the hands and feet begin to rise.
* Just 8 hours after your last cigarette, carbon monoxide and oxygen levels in the body begin to normalize.
* 24 hours after your last cigarette, risk of heart attack decreases.
* 48 hours after your last cigarette, smell and taste improve and nerve endings start growing again.
Besides the obvious health benefits, there’s also the benefit of saving money. Everyone is looking for ways to save money in today’s economy. Quitting smoking can save almost $2,000 a year assuming consumption is at least a pack a day.
Many smokers understand the dangers and want to quit, but the side effects make it seem impossible…
Nearly 95% of smokers that have tried to stop smoking shortly returned to the habit. Many admit that the main reason was the withdrawal side effects. However, you should understand that the risks associated with smoking are greater than the short-lived side effects of stopping and that there is now an option that will help ease those side effects. That option is Smoke Deter.
One of the benefits of Smoke Deter is that not only does this product help you stop smoking by controlling the cravings of nicotine; it also helps ease the withdrawal side effects that usually occur while you’re trying to quit. Some of these withdrawal side effects include restlessness, coughing, anxiety, headaches, and food cravings. Smoke Deter includes 11 active (natural) ingredients to combat this.
* Coughing, headaches, and an upset stomach are eased by the ingredient Abies Nigra (Black Spruce).
* Your nerves are relaxed due to the ingredient Avena (oates).
* Stress related symptoms and those overwhelming food cravings are treated with the ingredient Nux Vomica (Poison Nut).
* Coughing accompanied by chest pain or tickling in the throat and restlessness are eased by the ingredient Aconitum Napellus (Monkshood), while it also calms you.
Sadly, almost the same percentage of smokers that stated that the reason they returned to smoking was because of the withdrawal side effects also stated that they believed that smoking is not as bad as it is made out to be. The truth is that smoking is a very deadly habit that contributes to more deaths each year around the world than several major illnesses.
When it comes to seeking help from an aid to help stop smoking, it is important to find a product that will do the job in a safe and healthy manner. If you’ve been smoking for years or for nearly a lifetime, the last thing you should do is bring more harmful chemicals into your body. Remember that regardless of how long you’ve been smoking, your body is damaged and should be taken care of during the process.
Smoke Deter allows you to reach your goal of not smoking as well as help heal your body that has been damaged by the deadly habit in a safe and natural manner. Quitting today is possible!

The hardest thing was to be able to not depend on the cigarettes and not die (literally) in the attempt.
Throughout my life as a smoker trying to kick the habit and the result was always the same: smoking again. Why? I did not know, just could not quit for good, as it is today. I tried almost all methods and for avid.
Nicotine patches, gum, medicine, acupuncture, electronic cigarette. My salary was not enough to cover the cost of many treatments, added to the budget of cigarettes. After a while my self-esteem and financial worth nothing. I wondered all the time: “how to stop smoking easily”
It all started when one day I asked my nine year old son that cost him much closer to give me a kiss or a hug. Our relationship always worked perfectly but every time I asked a kiss or a hug, almost refused to give me. When I explained the reasons I almost cried. She said: mama can not stand the smell of cigarette more, I hate it. If you keep smoking you will die, stop smoking, please.
Immediately, I decided to find some effective method to tell me how to stop smoking easily and found an enormous number of ways in which I had tried most and always fell back to smoking again. But lo and behold I found one that did not know and I decided to further investigate the issue, was one of the best decisions of my life.
What I mean is the method of hypnotherapy Fran Barbero that if I worked and you can quit smoking easily and permanently. I thank my son first because he can gain the necessary strength and to investigate further and find the ultimate solution. Then I want to thank Fran Barber because his treatment was that if hiso to stop smoking for good.
My hope is that other people manage to overcome their addiction. It’s worth trying and if you really want to quit smoking and I leave the solution at least, I say “works for me” and stop smoking easily and guaranteed. In short aviation tried all known chemical and physical methods, but the answer was in my subconscious and clear do not know, is like one who has not seen.

Stop Smoking Naturally
February 13, 2012 by admin
Filed under How to stop smoking
To quit smoking is difficult and this is with everyone. Whatever methods or approaches one applies, there are instances when one reverts to the cigarette. The reason for the failure to quit smoking is that, the method applied to stop smoking might be having such effects on the body that it becomes difficult to sustain and the smoker turns back to smoking again. Therefore, alternate methods or natural methods should be adopted to quit smoking.
There are so many products in the market, which aid the ‘stop smoking campaign’, but none of them are everlasting. Therefore, one should go for the ‘stop smoking naturally’ approach. Here is how one can stop smoking naturally:
The first method, which helps in quitting smoking the natural way, is the decision to stop smoking. Since nothing can be done if it is not backed by grit and determination, one should make up his mind to stop smoking from that very instant. There might be pills and potions that claim to help in stop smoking, but all this is farce. You can stop smoking naturally if you want to and therefore look for methods and approaches that offer natural ways to get rid of the habit of smoking.
To stop smoking naturally a person must be informed of the consequences of smoking. Although one might argue, that these are already known to the smoker but he tends to overlook them. However, when one gets into the rehabilitation mode, he starts understanding the complications associated with smoking and therefore is in a better position to understand that until now, he had been wasting himself.Use natural products like oats, which have proven successful in weaning away smokers from cigarettes. A smoker gets into the habit of smoking because he mainly depends on nicotine, which acts as a pleasure giving substance.
The body wants more and more of it. For this, it keeps sending signals to the brain. Even if a determined person tries to quit smoking, the body’s dependency on nicotine, does not let him give up smoking and nicotine. Therefore, such things that negate the effect of nicotine absence are important during the quitting phase. The alcoholic extract of oats, when consumed in the form of tincture, has shown tremendous results for nicotine withdrawal.
Another natural remedy for quitting smoking is the mixture of tinctures of herbs like green oats, golden seal, white-horse hound, peppermint and mullein. Whenever the smoker has the craving to smoke, a few drops of the mixture are put on his tongue and this has shown some very good results.Other products like herbal lozenges, herbal aromas and herbal liquids aid in stopping smoking in the natural way.
Besides the above-mentioned natural ways to stop smoking, the will power and determination of a person reigns supreme, when it comes to quitting. Therefore, one must try to be with their loved ones and think about them. He should think about the consequences, which they would have to face, in case something drastic happens to him. A strong determination alone is enough to stop smoking.

Among life’s pleasures the long pull on a fragrant pipe ranks high. But the excess of the smoking habit can cause some well publicized problems. Smoking as a health threatening addiction has been documented and the public has been warned, yet massive smoking in excessive volumes continues. Cigarettes, menthol cigarettes, marijuana cigarettes, hand-rolled cigarettes and pipe tobacco smoking is enjoying and indulged in by individuals in all cultures and societies.
The epidemic of smoking diseases and complications of smoking for the individual and others provokes an investigation into why do people smoke yields answers. Why do people start to smoke in the first place. Some people smoke out of nervousness, or because they want to keep their weight down, or because they have developed an addiction to the feelings associated with smoking. Confronting an individual about their smoking can provoke anger, discomfort an guilt, yet the smoking habit continues in many who know they should stop.
When smoking becomes a daily volume habit that cannot be controlled, intervention is required for medical health. lung cancer and other medical complications that arise starkly in any individual health profile due to smoking. Shortness of breath, a hacking cough, inability to cope without compulsive smoking, and contravention of medication are just some of the symptoms, health side effects and problems of smoking addiction. Pregnant women smoking opens up a Pandora’s Box of health problems for the potential mother and fetus. Ear, nose and throat specialists are kept busily employed with smoking patients and career customers.
The incidence of starting smoking in the very young person, as early as 13 or 14, poses a problem for social scientists. Why do people start to smoke has become a social question as much as a medical question. The conflict between actual practice and indicative benefits illustrates the idiosyncratic nature of a person’s smoking practices and human psychology behind it. Peer pressure, discomfort in social or in response to tense situations, and smoking as a method of coping with stress all factor into smoking habit and in some individuals encourages a smoking addiction. many smokers conceal that they smoke a pack of cigarettes or more a day.
Scientists, health advocates, and all ask, why do people smoke? and The answer of course, come in large part thanks to iconic screen images of movie stars like James Dean and Humphrey Bogart lighting up. Modern advertising projecting the macho cowboy or sophisticated bachelor lighting up has been part of newspaper and television media history. A much-publicized campaign by tobacco companies to minimize the threat of cigarettes and tobacco to pubic health is a fact many smokers are benign to. An industry has arisen to stop smoking in pill, patch, and program form.
Despite a printed warning that cigarettes and tobacco are harmful to health included on every pack, cigarettes sales remain a lucrative franchise for many retailers. On any health insurance application, a smoking habit can mean additional health costs for the named insured and the company paying the policy. Absenteeism and by-products like acceleration of other health problems become a reality for any long term addictive smoker. Yet the pleasures of smoking and the habit of doing so is impossible for many to forego.
Smoking had been a standard form of recreation and relaxation long before cigarrettes came along. Pipe smoking was practices among Egyptians, ancient Chinese, Far Eastern cultures and native American Indians for centuries. The relaxation technique was hardly for the working classes or peasants. But today smoking is an epidemic health threat for health organizations and smoking addicts on a massive scale. Asking why do people smoke is to form a snapshot of the human psychology at its best and worst.

Quitting Smoking Can Be Done
February 12, 2012 by admin
Filed under How to stop smoking
I found an interesting article about quitting smoking on the Philippine Information Agency website and I have copied it below for your convenience.
Feature: 3 heavy smokers proves that quitting smoking can be done
by Bong Pedalino
What do a lady employee of a national government office, a vice-president of the association of barangay captains, and a male teacher have in common as they shared their story at the Maasin city gym here today.
The three were confessed chain smokers back then but were able to overcome the smoking habit, sharing their experiences, and offering themselves as living testament to the reality that those hooked on such vice do still have a chance to enjoy life without puffing cigarettes.
It was the launching of a video presentation that captured lurid and graphic details on the ill-effects of the smoking addiction as part of the campaign called “Cigarettes are eating you alive”, spearheaded by the Department of Health (DOH) in partnership with Bloomberg Initiative and fully supported by the city government of Maasin.
Daphne Santiago, a key staff at the provincial office of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), said she had been into smoking for the past thirty years and according to her,the cigarette was her indispensable partner during those years. She was able to stop three years ago, just in time when the city was about to embark on a serious anti-smoking campaign.
She said her love of children prompted her to quit puffing for good, with much moral support from friends and relatives, and close families, and also out of fear her children’s future might be compromised if she continued to cling to her vice.
Santiago likewise shared the many benefits she experienced in three years’ time of kicking the habit, which included a good appetite for foods, no more insomnia, smoker’s cough, dry skin, she now looks younger, and her guilt feelings towards the family were gone.
Danilo Duenas, vice-president of the City Association of Barangay Captains, was a smoker for 37 years, starting in 1972 when he was ten years old, but on reaching aged 42 he noticed so many illnesses striking his body, a never-ending cough among them. On May 19, 20009, he decided to stop smoking, and since then he became healthy again.
Melee Gerong, a public school teacher, was not ashamed to smoke even in the classroom while teaching, and in attending official functions inside air-conditioned rooms — he consumed at least seven packs a day while in the thick of his smoking habit that began in 1968, so much so that he was rumored to have died three times already.
Indeed, it was a close call to death when he was diagnosed as having a cancer of the lungs due to his virtually non-stop smoking habits; he was bedridden – he cannot walk — for eight months, and even during these critical times of his life, still he secretly lit cigarettes when he was alone, or when no one was looking.
But since six years ago to the day, Gerong, standing physically fit before the audience, has fully recovered from the debilitating, cigarette-spawned disease, as he stressed that his lone motivation in mending his ways was the love for his wife and children.
Attending the launching today at the city gym were city officials and employees led by Mayor Maloney Samaco, provincial board members Albert Escalamado, Abelardo Almario, and Roberto Lagumbay; Marysol Astrea Balane, Bloomberg representative; and Dr. Paula Sydiongco and Imelda Ramos from DOH Eastern Visayas. There’s nothing quite like using your will power to free yourself from smoking addiction. Each day, we hear people succumb to their deaths because of smoking. You may or may not notice that every time you consult a doctor the first thing he would ask you is, “Do you smoke or drink?” Smoking a few sticks won’t kill you; but the addiction to keep on smoking indefinitely will. Certainly, our body wasn’t built to last and every misfortune, ill-treatment or addiction weakens it gradually. These reasons alone should motivate you to stop smoking now.
So, how are you going to free yourself from smoking? Smokers know the dangers of tobacco yet they continue to smoke. Why is that? These people aren’t stupid enough not to know the dangers of smoking. They know that each time they light a cigarette they’re also be cutting off their expected lifespan, dumping carbon monoxide and nicotine into their lungs, or ripping the precious oxygen from reaching their vital organs.
You know what, this is all due to addiction and the lack of will power and desire to live in a healthy lifestyle. To make it worse, smokers are also endangering the people around him while he enjoys his vice by passing passive second hand smoke.
People smoke for reasons but no matter how valid they seemed to be, smoking is physically a taxing activity. Don’t feel discouraged if you’ve tried several quit smoking methods and programs in the past. It means you’re on the right path towards freeing yourself but haven’t found the right method yet. That’s good enough and we’re going to assist you all the away.
As soon as you stop smoking, your body recuperates from all the lost “stuffs,” and you begin to see the big difference. Knowing what happens when you quit smoking is a great way to find motivation. However, it’s not a walk in the park. Addiction is always difficult to conquer, and you need more than a cupful of patience, perseverance, support and will power to do achieve that goal. You’ll be weak, restless, irritable, mood swings that will last for two weeks. Hold on to your horses and never give up. Afterwards, you’ll feel the gradual loss for nicotine cravings and fitness reemerge. It’s just but normal; after all, cleaning your body from toxins isn’t an easy fate.
There’s a handful of ways you can take advantage to quit smoking now. Read the articles we’ve written in the past and use them to increase your chances to succeed. Here are some clear-cut ways to get you started.
Choose a quit date. Mark the date on your calendar when to quit and stick to it. Don’t reason out and don’t let your mind reason out; write on the calendar that on this day you are now an ex-smoker.Always ask support from your family or friends. Tell them that you’re ready to quit smoking for the last time. Tell them to watch over you and prevent you from sneaking out to buy cigarettes. It might irritate you but it sure do works if you really want to quit,
Smokers reach cigarettes to ward off the idle time. If your mind and hands are busy, you’ll soon forget lighting a stick. All the same, don’t keep cigarettes in your home, office or anywhere. Instead carry with you a quit smoking book like the one written by Allen Carr – Easy Way to Quit Smoking.Eventually, you’ll save money because you aren’t buying them anymore. Treat yourself; buy something you’d always wanted.
Change your routines. For instance, if you’re buying cigarette packs from this shop every morning, then don’t pass there. If you used to hang out with your friends to smoke during coffee breaks, then you’ll have to change that as well.Get an index card and write these words in bold “I Rejoice Because I Am Now an Ex-Smoker.” Carry this card anywhere you go, put it in your wallet for easy retrieval.
Remember you are already an ex-smoker; read this card every time you feel the urge.We never told you that that quit smoking will be as easy as counting 1-2-3. Take it one day at a time, step by step and start now by taking the first step. Lastly, I only know a few people who could quit cold turkey immediately. I’m not one of them and it took me several months (4-5) before I succeed in quitting. So if you fail the first time, take it as a challenge, and don’t ever give up quitting until you succeed.
